Ferguson finds his own mysterious muse in the sounds of New Orleans. NRBQ's original guitarist is part musical archivist, part myth-maker; the accompanying story of Mama-U-Seapa in the liner notes is a saga of music, murder and "easy virtue." The music, with the help of the Midwest Creole Ensemble, is a house-rent party: there's Piano Red's "Coo-Cha" and "Right String Baby," a cover of the Time's "Jungle Love," and a batch of Ferguson originals with titles like "Pig Latin Love Song" dressed up with a horn section. Most of NRBQ make guest appearances, and Chuck Berry's piano player Johnnie Johnson is along for the ride, too. Play this one loud, and just make sure you invite the neighbors! (M. Bromberg)
