Michael Buffalo Smith & The Rockabilly Hall Of Fame Blues Band 2001 Midwest Carolina Blues

Genre: Blues

Time: 00:38:57
Size: 89,10 MB

United States

Listeners in search of a roots-rock blast might find their interests piqued by "Midwest Carolina Blues" (Rockabilly Hall of Fame 110), cut in Lincoln, Nebraska by Michael Buffalo Smith & the Rockabilly Hall of Fame Blues Band. This set nicely straddles the line between the two genres but ultimately hews closer to blues, between R&B ballad "It's Been So Long," slow blues "Jelly, Jelly," and the haunting, noir-ish" Rockabilly Blue... (BLUES REVUE MAGAZINE)

The album is dedicated to the memory of our dear friend Bobby Lowell, one of the first true rockabilly artists out of Lincoln. The whole album project was conceived to pay tribute to Lowell. (Michael Buffalo Smith)

Cadillac Dave's CD Checkin' On My Baby is as cool as the Cheshire cat chrome grill of a vintage DeVille. Rangy, rakish and rhythmical, it's the kind of music you want as your sound track as you swing your convertible down Michigan Avenue on a summer night, looking for excitement. The renditions are loyal to the original artists, expertly played with just enough whimsy to keep you entertained. You'll love it. (Scott Warren Taylor)

Clarence Samuels 2000 House Of Blues

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:30:05
Size: 68,79 MB

United States

It’s quite amazing that Clarence Samuels, the first man to record for Leonard Chess in 1947, wouldn’t have his own CD—contemporary or reissue—on the market until 2000.

Like a superstitious bride, House of Blues, contains something new, something old, something borrowed and something blue. The upbeat title track is something new and is a quite witty, somewhat of a up-to-date sequel to Louis Jordan’s “Saturday Night Fish Fry.”

It actually makes the House of Blues sound like a fun destination. “Putt Putt,” “P. D. Q.” and “Big Fat Mama” are also fine uptempo blues that Samuel’s sells with humorous lyrics and a playful vocals delivery. The six contemporary tracks would have benefited with the addition of a few horns, but since Samuels footed most of the costs for this CD with his Social Security check, it was done on a shoe string budget.

Four tracks were borrowed and are over 40 years old, including the familiar classic “Chicken Hearted Woman,” and the outrageous “She Walk, She Walk,” which Professor Longhair appropriated as “She Walks Right In.” Ironically, Samuels earliest recordings, “Lollypop Mama” and “Boogie Woogie Blues,” close out the set. Samuels, who now calls New Orleans home, proves he’s still got pep and a lot to offer.

Tracklist:

01 - House Of Blues 03:44

02 - I'm Singing This Song For Me 03:21

03 - I Love You Too Much 03:43

Southern Cross 2000 Thirteen Years In The Makin'

Genre: Southern Rock
Rate: 128 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:31:34
Size: 28,86 MB

United States

Wearing its affinity for Southern rock on its stonewashed jeans, the band formerly known as Renegade is making its recording debut at a watershed moment for the style.

It's been such a long time. A couple of months ago Southern Cross (formerly known as Renegade) released its first full-length work. That's after 14 years of togetherness, in the same lineup now as in 1986. Lack of money and of know-how and pop culture's fickle nature are to blame. Luckily for the band, interest in Southern rock has risen. Again. The band's self-released debut, Thirteen Years in the Makin', couldn't have been better timed.

The makeover Houston's longest-running (and possibly only) practitioner gives the style is refreshing. In fact, it's so refreshing -- and so bereft of irony -- that it verges on corny. Songs like "Poison," "Black Widow" and "Line upon the Sand" are built on Southern rock's best clichés: predictable arrangements and lurid lyrics about mean women and self-congratulation. Recorded piecemeal at Spanky's since 1989, Thirteen Years will sound alien to anyone whose idea of rock and roll doesn't involve sincerity. In a world of self-deprecating show-offs, Southern Cross is a true alternative.

"We've gone through years believing in this blues-based rock," says Gary Smith, Southern Cross guitarist/vocalist. "We were going against big-hair stuff and alternative stuff. Then Stevie Ray Vaughan got popular and kinda brought it back….It's exciting, it's rewarding, and it's a real confirmation for us. You know, you're always told, 'Do what you believe in and do it best you can,' and we work at that philosophy."

Being a walking, talking, performing anachronism has one distinct benefit: accessibility. Here are four guys, Gary Smith, Tom Bowman (guitar, vocals), Tim McCrary (bass, vocals) and Keith Brazzel (drums, vocals), all middle-aged, all local scene vets, all dedicated to their band and its sound. They play a brand of music that has developed a significant following over the years, and they stick to it. (Some of the songs on Thirteen Years are indeed that old.) When you, the listener, hear the words "Southern rock" and "Renegade" (or "Southern Cross") in the same sentence, you know what you're gonna get. Southern Cross delivers. R. M. Tocak 1976 R. M. Tocak

Genre: Progressive Rock
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:29:29
Size: 67,48 MB

Serbia

The one and the only 70's solo effort from the SMAK's guitar player, Radomir "Tocak" Mihajlovic is very similar in style and sound with the SMAK's albums from the same era. A very nice, emotional bluesy progressive rock. Musicianship is very good, actually is almost on the same level as usual SMAK setup. There are loads of interesting ideas here ("Modifans"), rocking moments ("Svrabez") and a nice diversity of styles, including some Mihajlovic's experimentation using drum sticks on his Fender Stratocaster.

This album, although it is an instrument-oriented one, is as very intimate reflection of author's state of mind - it was made in the year when Tocak's father died. So we have here a perfect blend of - let's say - Santana-style blues, Robert Wyatt's introspection and DEEP PURPLE rocking, all spiced up with LEB I SOL-like style of fusioning Balkan folk with rock music.

Perhaps the highlight of the album is the opening track itself ("Oro"), because it's one of the first efforts in rock music to blend rock with Balkans' irregular time signatures in a very particular form of a dance called oro. Radomir's guitar really rocks here, and it's quit difficult to follow the song, since it's written in 11/8+11/8+11/8+14/8! (clarke2001)
